Chapter 3: Just Because You Love Flowers, Doesn't Mean You Are a Gardener
Becoming a planter and having a green thumb isn't something easy to do. I remember house sitting for a family last year. They said that there is a garden that I need to water twice a day, especially, the greens that they worked so hard. The commitment to house sitting that I strive to be was a very hands on learning experience. Every morning before the sun peaks, you need to water the plants or else the leaves on the vegetables would burn. To be honest, the first day I failed to water them by noon, and later on that evening the tips of the vegatable leaves were light - colored brown.... NO! NO! I didn't kill the plants but obviously I didn't water the garden correctly. Lesson learned. The next day I got it right. I watered the plants on time and so on and so on through the entire week. I did good.
Food for thought [punny ]
This reminds me of how Jesus tells a parable of the farmer sowing seeds. The way he places his seeds in the paths and on the rockys and on good soil. The one that stands out the most which is similar to my struggle is when the farmer scattered seeds on the rockys, lack of soil but sprang fast by the joy of the word of God, but was not deeply rooted in their faith. This stands out to me because there are so many who've heard the word but can't cling to it, can't become deeply rooted in it.
Luke 8: 13 | " The ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe only for a while and in a time of testing fall away"
Oh God! How many say they have faith and they know the Lord, but when the first hard hitting moment happens, faith is broken. You forget how to extend the cross before you! You forget that you are promised far more than the worldly afflictions. When your focus is cast on the riches of the world, that is when you become a farmer planting seeds in thorns.
Luke 8: 14 | " As for what fell among the thorns, these are the ones who hear; but as they go on their way, they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasure of life, and their fruit does not mature."
God sometimes plan the disappointments and blessings before they come, to brace us for the coming emotions. Today I've experienced both and that's okay. What I'm learning is that in order to purse Christ with my full heart, I must be able to forgive. To make a choice to say "all is forgiven." Thank you God for planning this message. Thank you for opening my heart up to hurt and heal through you, who is my strength and shield.
