Why I blog.
I read the story on how Jesus walked on water, it is an incredible story if you haven't read it well here it is...
Matthews 14:22-32 | " Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he dispersed the crowds. 23 And after he sent the crowds away, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone. 24 Meanwhile the boat, already far from land, was taking a beating from the waves because the wind was against it. 25 As the night was ending, Jesus came to them walking on the sea. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water they were terrified and said, “It’s a ghost!” and cried out with fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them: “Have courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.” 28 Peter said to him, “Lord, if it is you, order me to come to you on the water.” 29 So he said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind he became afraid. And starting to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 When they went up into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
An amazing God we have, he does the unthinkable and performs incredible things. So after reading this story I thought, Peter began to drown for one of two reasons. Peter trusted Jesus enough to get of the boat and walk on the water to go to him, but he didn't trust Jesus enough to keep walking. He stopped, his faith was shaken, so it caused him to drown. Reason two being because of the waves and wind that night, Peter lost sight of Jesus, his faith wasn't strong enough for him to continue to walk towards Jesus even if he couldn't see him anymore. Sometimes this happens to me, actually, this has been happening a lot lately to me. I lose sight of Jesus and I began to drown in the uncertainty of life. I fall short and I forget to trust God even when times gets hard, I forget to lean on my faith when time gets hard.
This story is so important to me because I was covered by the waves and wind of the world and I lost sight of hope, faith and trust in God; sometimes I am overwhelmed with the obstacles I face in life daily. Sometimes I feel like Peter, shaken and scared. How does someone overcome those emotions? Simple. Turn towards God and remember...
Joshua 1:9 | "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
The Lord my God is always there and will not allow anything nor anyone to hurt me. He is my strength and shield, he is my salvation. Trusting in him and having faith in him, he will always protect me and make things better.
Never lose sight of our Savior, for he will pull you from the waves, he will protect and help you stand.
The song Oceans (where my feet may fail) is the song of Matthews 14:22-32 and it reminds you that if you trust in God and allow your faith to guide you, then God will always protect you.
