Miss the Mark
I want to tell a little story. My first summer working as a camp counselor we had to do staff training nights, where we would sit and listen to people speak about the awesomeness that is summer camp. Also we would hear radical words about how great camp is. Sometimes during training we do songs and games, which is my favorite part. One day during training, we were learning all about archery the importance of safety, and we even got to shoot some arrows! Oh Lord, let me tell you that I am not Katniss Everdeen. I remember standing, looking straight at the target, the bullseye, and missing completely. Maybe my aim was too high or too low, but I know the intended target was missed. That's how we treat our faith sometimes, we miss the mark.
The Target: Glory of God
The Arrows: Faith & Worship
We say that God is at the center of our lives, and we want to give complete trust, faith, and worship over to him. Just sometimes we miss the mark. We may think that we are aiming straight at Christ, but what happens is we only aim at our idols. Those things that we worship just a little bit or a lot a bit more than God.We target usually at the desires of our soul, the neediness of our hearts and not at the glory of God. We are broken sinners, I am a broken sinner.
GOOD NEWS!!!!! I reference this verse so much because it is the sweetest of news. "While we are still sinners, CHRIST DIED FOR US" (Romans 5:8). Even though we are missing the mark completely at times, Jesus did something incredible. He took all our arrows of sin and was nailed to the cross for us, so that we may always receive the bullseye, who is our father Lord of all Lords, God. How awesome! To know that a man will take your bad archery skills on so that you can always get a bullseye. So that you can always get love that is like no other love. So that you can receive beyond this life. That is the best news to me.
God I thank you. You are always prepared for the storms that come. Lord you are a magnificent God, who readies the storm before landfalls. What a powerful God you truly are. A divine God. Thank you for allowing us to see the beauty of the world, but to allow us not to be so caught up in the meaningless idols of this world. You are everlasting, nothing will trickle over from this world, except our spirits that one day will walk with you in heaven. Good news to that! I pray that we may only aim to you God. I declare on this day, that there is nothing more or less that we aim at, except for you Lord! So much power is in your name, all of the blessing we recieve is from you. So lets us continue to worship the one who deserves unsettling worship. God, I pray we may all receive that as the sons and daughters of your kingdom.
Amen.
